The Houston Dynamo are playoff-bound, but Saturday night ended with mixed emotions after they battled back from a goal down to earn a 2-2 draw against FC Dallas. Houston celebrated a postseason berth and honored club legend Brian Ching, yet a late penalty in stoppage time denied the Dynamo a victory that would have made the night even sweeter.

Houston officially clinched a spot in the 2026 MLS Cup Playoffs following results elsewhere in the Western Conference. The postseason appearance marks the club’s third in the last four seasons. With 13 regular-season victories, the Dynamo have won more games than all but three teams in the Western Conference.

The night also featured a special halftime ceremony honoring Ching, a three-time MLS Cup champion and one of the most celebrated figures in club history. Ching was officially inducted as the inaugural member of the Houston Dynamo Ring of Honor during a memorable evening for the club and its supporters.

On the field, midfielder Héctor Herrera and attacker Mateusz Bogusz helped Houston fight back after trailing 1-0 at halftime. Goalkeeper Jonathan Bond also delivered a crucial moment, saving a penalty from FC Dallas striker Petar Musa to prevent the visitors from extending their lead to 2-0.

However, the drama continued into stoppage time, when both teams were awarded penalties. Houston’s late concession proved particularly frustrating, as the Dynamo had an opportunity to see out the match and claim all three points. The club has recorded 11 clean sheets this season, with 10 credited to Bond, highlighting the goalkeeper’s importance throughout the campaign.

Head coach Ben Olsen praised his players’ hard work but made no secret of his frustration with the officiating and several key decisions. While the draw secured Houston’s place in the postseason, the dropped points left the Dynamo with a bittersweet ending to a night that celebrated both the club’s future and one of its greatest legends.
